Day 3 - Megamall and Batu Caves (guess which was better)

Megamall and Batu Caves - two imposing places. The morning at Megamall was great for buying $30 shoes, but otherwise not photo-worthy. The afternoon at Batu Caves, however, was much more memorable. My legs are still reminding me.

Batu Caves are caves in the limestone cliffs just north of KL. Here's me, Renu and Mel in front of Lord Murugan and the 272 stairs that lead up to the Temple Cave. Inside the cave, there is a Hindu temple where Gan and Renu were going to give an offering and have a prayer said for them before their wedding.

Yay! We made it to the top.











Here's the temple inside the cave. We watched the ceremonies involving Murugan's weapon and then Murugan himself (so to speak) which culminated in us getting the red and white dots on our forehead.

Gan told one of the priests our names (and what Renu was getting herself in for) and he gave us a special blessing. I noticed when he said 'Karen' he wobbled his head as some Indians do... at first I thought he was saying "Karen, [head wobble] I'm not sure about that Karen".

I had been praying that the monkeys wouldn't get me. But then the monkeys seem to be eating the offering... so I don't know how that works out. They didn't get me, but they did try to get each other and one kind of chased me.

The trip back down is always a little easier.
